Project Scope

Engine (100% complete) 10/06

1993 SVX EJ33 Motor OBD1

A/C System (20% complete)

This will be using a Behr in dash system using the SVX compressor

I layed out all my components on the garage floor and started scheming. A few things came to mind immediately. The VW wiring system is a complicated mess. I really don't want to take a change on impacting my wiring. I have decided to isolate with A/C system from the VW harness with a Vintage Air Controller and wiring harness. This comes with relays and a thermistor for duty cycling the compressor. I want this to be bullet proof and don't want to have to deal with old VW relays and Thermistors. It cost $60 direct. It looks like i can integrate the control panel into the VW panel

Will place pictures for review. I have also decided to install all components before going to have hoses made. I feel it will be too difficult to have hoses made of the correct length with the compressor, condenser, evaporator off the car.

I tested the Behr in dash A/C unit. It has built in resistors for speed control and 2 fans. I tested the fans with a cordless drill power pack. Right away one of the fans started shrieking madly. Having had experience with this phenomenon on my 914-6 i took both fans to a local old-school shop that rebuilds electric motors. I don't want to pull this unit 5 months from now.

Parts needed, My Behr units is missing a intake cover and a vent duct! Can anyone help me!

This part of the project is on hold since i have decided to run hoses after motor install it is no longer critical path to the project.

91 Dash (0% complete)

Since I am pulling the dash out for the A/C install might as well update. Mine has a badly hole cut for the power sunroof

South African Steel Bumpers (75% complete)

The rear bumper will have to be modified for the mudflaps. The sides wrap around too far.  They are painted satin black right now but will be powder coated eventually.

Tristar front and rear seats  (complete)

My Doka came with a GL Interior including the large bench seat. The seat is too large for the rear, makes it hard to get in via the rear door and just fits wrong.

The interior has been changed. I can't express how much happier i am with the proper doka rear seat. Fits so much better. The old GL bench had a huge 4x4 piece of wood to give the seat some angle and just a bunch of crappy home made brackets. Nothing like cleaing up the PO crap work. I feel better already...

Front end suspension rebuild (20% complete)

I picked up a spare front end from the wrecker. Will be disassembled and rebuilt so minimize my down time on this one.
